This year the Wallingford Carnival team are putting our support behind the Town Council's Platinum Jubilee festivities with a 'Wallingford Carnival Goes Royal' themed Carnival AT HOME during the first weekend in June. We did think we'd be restarting the 'proper' in-person carnival in 2022, but then we realised how close together the Jubilee and this year's carnival date would be, and decided that we wanted to help turn the whole town royal to celebrate the Queen's 70 years! Shops, schools, households, pubs and restaurants - we want everyone to get involved! Decorate your house / garden / business /window for the Jubilee weekend. Prizes to be won ! We are very sad to announce Wallingford Carnival 2020 has been cancelled. We have discussed many options but feel this is the safest and best decision for this year. It would be impossible for schools and groups to come together to create floats,stalls and entertainment .We could still be in lockdown in June or adhering to social distancing guidelines. We discussed the option of an alternative date.This is also difficult due to other Wallingford Events later on in the year. She began telling stories more than sixty years ago as a little girl at the Krinny School. Since then she has worked all over the country and in America. This year we have an exciting addition to the carnival - on carnival day, there will be a brilliant exhibition in the town hall showcasing the carnival's history in Wallingford. This has been curated by David Beasley, a local historian, and will be a fascinating display of photographs, past programmes and other memorabilia which together tell the history of Wallingford Carnival from the early 1900s to the present day.
